Since the year is coming to a close, I’m sharing a 3-part series highlighting (in no particular order) artists to watch.
Welcome to part one.
This is about a creative whose artistic style caught my eye. It’s polished and picturesque. From a distance, his resin-coated wood designs are cleanly composed and topped with a glossy finish. Up close, you’ll notice details unique to each piece resulting from the flow of the painting process. Ultimately, this brings non-replicable to new heights while making each custom piece even more charming.
Introducing…
Kasey Wakasa — who creates under the name Wakasi.
In July 2019, he began sharing his art on Instagram, which continues to serve as a digital gallery for his work. By doing this, he brings viewers along parts of his creative journey. In it, you can see clear growth as he makes the world his canvas by experimenting with surfboards, apparel, and more.
From his early designs like the Dripping Heart — which has become an evolving staple with his brand — to custom orders for clients and original collections (e.g., Evoke, Explore), he uses his online presence to reveal inspiration and context.
While he shares updates and glimpses of his work on different social platforms, his website acts as the main hub for new collections and stand-alone pieces. In fact, as of December 2, 2022, it’s where you can find the official look book for his holiday collection.
Contemporary artist, Wakasi, is one to watch as he builds out his artistry through exploration of different mediums all while continuing to make bold strokes towards “bringing more color into this world” as he writes in the description for his “Day in the Life of a Full Time Artist” video.
